Solar Street Light Spacing & Layout Calculator

Size a solar street lighting layout in seconds: enter your road width, pole arrangement and target brightness, and the calculator returns the recommended pole spacing, the lumens each fixture must deliver, a suggested wattage class and the number of poles for your road length – using the same sizing rules as our engineering guides.

Formulas: spacing ≈ 3–4 × pole height (single side), 4–5 × (staggered), 3.5–4.5 × (center twin-arm) · required lumens = lux × spacing × width ÷ utilization factor · wattage class assumes ~100 delivered lm/W, a typical figure for quality integrated solar street lights. Estimates for budgeting – request a photometric check for tender submissions.

How the Calculator Works

The tool applies the three planning relationships used in professional road lighting:

  • Spacing follows pole height. Single-side layouts start at 3-4 times the mounting height; staggered layouts stretch to 4-5 times because each point on the road is lit from two sides; center twin-arm layouts sit between the two.
  • Lumens follow the area each lamp must cover. Required lumens per lamp = target lux × spacing × road width ÷ utilization factor (0.25-0.35 is a realistic planning range for typical street light optics).
  • Wattage follows delivered lumens. The suggested class assumes roughly 100 delivered lumens per watt of LED power – a typical figure for quality integrated solar street lights. Always buy lumens, not watts.

Treat every result as a planning estimate, not a specification: the final layout depends on your tender illuminance requirement, the luminaire optics and the local standard. For tender submissions, ask us for a photometric check based on the actual IES files of the fixtures you are quoting.
